GTK publication series

The scientific publication series of the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is Bulletin, which combines previous the Special Paper and Research report series. The Bulletin series has been published since 1895, first under the French name Bulletin de la Commission Géologique de Finlande and since 1971 with the name Geological Survey of Finland, Bulletin. It is a scientific series meant for international distribution, published in English.

The editorial staff of Bulletin consists of GTK’s director of scientific research, a science editor and 3–5 other docent-level members, of which at least one comes from outside Finland. Bulletin is a digital publication, which can also be printed when required. The editorial staff decides on this on a case-by-case basis. All Bulletin papers have at least two pre-examiners to ensure their scientific quality.

Bulletin can be:

  • Monograph (a consistent and independent study)
  • Special Issue (contains separate articles on a particular theme, replaces the earlier Special Papers series)
  • Research Report (contains scientific reporting of research results, replaces the earlier Report of Investigation series)
  • Proceedings (enlarged abstracts of scientific meetings)

On the decision of the director responsible for scientific activity, GTK can also publish other publications, such as books, summaries (e.g. a synopsis of an article-based thesis) and other special publications in Finnish, Swedish or English.

GTK Open File Research Report and non-scientific research reporting

Reports results and conclusions of a work package or a project as a whole.
