Baseline studies

GTK geological and geochemical data archives are a good starting point for baseline and current status studies.

Baseline studies describe the deposit's natural conditions before taking action that causes significant changes to the environment. The study provides the basic information for planning mining activity.

A baseline study is carried out at the operation and closure stages. It describes the possible environmental impact of mining activity on the soil, groundwater and surface water.

We provide the following expertise:

  • The area's bedrock and soil characteristics and composition
  • The area's landscape, and habitat types
  • Land use, planning stage, location of protection areas, and valuable natural sites
  • Drainage area definition and flow directions
  • Quality of surface water and groundwater
  • Impact assessment and positioning of activities

Solid practical experience

  • More than 10 years of experience in baseline studies
  • EIA guide for mine projects in 1999
  • Current status studies at dozens of locations
  • Certified samplers
