Peat

GTK’s mapping and surveying of peat resources produces peat resource data from approximately 30 000 hectares every year. GTK reports approximately 100 million cubic metres of peat resources usable for production. Mapping and making an inventory create a base for a vast database that allows us to exploit our substantial national energy resources in a sustainable and cost-effective way. Currently, our materials include approximately 16 000 mires.

GTK has vast experience in both peat resource assessment of production areas and carrying out geological surveys related to licensing peat production. All our regional offices have modern ground penetrating radar equipment, high-accuracy GPS equipment and the possibility to conduct soil drilling. Processing and modelling the results is done in a modern geodata environment.

We offer the following services

Peat research
Production area surveys and research on the environmental impacts of production
