Nuclear power and waste

Nuclear energy use inevitably produces radioactive waste.

The task of Nuclear Waste Management is to handle this waste in a way that does not pose unreasonable harm now or in the future. GTK produces for the disposal companies and authorities the geological, geochemical and geophysical research data they need to implement disposal and to assess its safety.

Uranium is the raw material of the fuel used in nuclear reactors. Current nuclear power plants used in electricity production and the nuclear power capacity being built form a relatively stable demand for uranium. Because the uranium deposits are limited, uranium is prospected also in Finland. GTK produces expert services related to the geology of uranium.
