1) traditional geological survey and inventory activities,

3) commercial services.
We are increasingly involved in projects geared to institutional development and capacity-building. This requires daily participation in activities such as surveying, assessment of resources and other geopotentials and dissemination of information to stakeholders.
Earth sciences services generally require the backing of substantial R&D capability to attain the best results.
GTK has won international acclaim for pioneering work in granite research, airborne geophysical surveys, chemical analyses of lunar soils, regional geochemical mapping and application of geophysical methods to the monitoring of environmental impacts.
Many of our approaches and methods have been developed in-house. They are always thoroughly tested before we consider applying them to a client’s circumstances. In recent years, GTK’s active project participation has averaged about two dozen R&D projects under European Commission auspices, as well as various other national and international science and technology projects.
In our institutional role, we work to maintain and develop Finland’s geoscience information infrastructure in ways that contribute to sustainable development and national prosperity. In our contractual role, we support the business goals of clients in developing geological resources, improving environmental performance and generating information useful for infrastructure projects and land use planning. Our expertise is valuable for all aspects of institutional development and capacity-building within the resources sector, and extends to issues such as climate change and polar research.
