A map service related to Finnish bedrock is now ready

GTK has produced a new kind of seamless map data concerning the Finnish bedrock to cater to the needs of the raw material service, construction, research, planning, and other operations beneficial to the society. www.geo.fi/en/ → Bedrock of Finland → Enter

The map service is based on published and unpublished map material, and the service is not bound to map sheet distribution. At this stage, the service is mainly intended for experts in mineral exploration, research, or regional planning. The service is available in English.

The map service contains a digital bedrock map of the whole of Finland, and database information of geological units closely related to the map. The service provides information on rock type units throughout Finland, and on the geological characteristics of the units. The service also has links to rock type publications and reports which can be directly accessed via the service.

The Finnish bedrock map service introduced now is the first version of the service www.geo.fi/en/ → Bedrock of Finland → Enter. The service is continuously supplemented and developed further. Additions in the near future include structural characteristics of bedrock, and information on Finland's ore potential and ore deposits. The service is also continuously supplemented with new surveying and research data, which means that the service supplies up-to-date information on the Finnish bedrock.

Geology knows no international or political boundaries. Many questions related to the supply of raw materials, and the environment, deal with geological matters. The databases behind the service are based on internationally-approved instructions and classifications, so that the data will also be internationally comparable.

The seamless map data on the Finnish bedrock is also available through other GTK map services of the geo.fi portal such as Acitve Map Explorer and Geo Map Services.
