Library

The library of the Geological Survey of Finland is the main library for geoscience information in Finland. The main office is in Espoo, near Helsinki. Library units are also situated in the regional offices in Kuopio and Rovaniemi. The library provides services to staff, geoscience organisations and universities as well as to members of the public.

Collections

The GTK library, established in 1886, holds about 150 000 items. The holdings include about 21 000 geologic maps and serials (some 2600 titles currently). It also houses monographs and conference volumes, theses and dissertations, CD-ROMs and videos. In addition to purchasing, material is acquired by exchange agreements with both national and international organisations.

The loan period is mostly a month, two weeks for new publications. The library material is also available to users through interlibrary loans.
