Sand and Gravel Database
The database contains information about the quality and quantity of sand and gravel, areal
extent of the deposits, usefulness of the deposits and land use. The quantity of crushable stone
(grain size 60-600 mm), gravel (grain size 2-60 mm), sand (grain size 0.06-2 mm) and the volume of
the whole deposit have been estimated. Techniques used in aggregate resource analyses are
geomorphological mapping, geophysical surveys (seismic and ground penetrating radar), drilling,
trial pitting, sampling and laboratory investigations. The accuracy of volume estimations is about
10 000 m³.The map scale of the areal extent is 1 : 20 000. The data is collected since 1971 and is
updated yearly.

Database of Finnish Peat Resources
The database holds information about all peatlands in Finland over 20 hectares. Information has
been stored about field measurement, depth-measurement and laboratory-measurement points.
Classified results (about 300/a bog) are available.

Ground Water Database
The database consists of the chemical and physical properties of groundwater samples. The basis
of the groundwater data is two samples per topographic map (1:20 000) collected from the whole of
Finland in 1978-82 (5900 samples). Since 1982 the data base has been increased by samples collected
in the connection of Quaternary mapping or other groundwater studies. The samples are taken from
springs, dug wells, groundwater tubes and drilled wells. There are groundwater monitoring samples
collected 4 - 6 time per year, too, in the data base. The samples are analyzed for 30 - 53
different parameters.
