| GEOLOGY | ||||||
| Geological setting | The occurrence is in a 5-9 m thick sulphidic BIF unit and banded amphibolite in a sequence of metasedimentary and tholeiitic to komatiitic metavolcanic rocks of the Vuosanka area, in the central eastern part of the Neoarchaean Kuhmo greenstone belt [1]. There also are up to 0.3 ppm Au (1.5 m intercept) in other rock units in the area, eg. in a tonalitic gneiss 3 km south of Hetteilä [1]. | |||||
| Major host rocks | BIF [1]. | |||||
| Minor host rocks | Amphibolite, komatiite [1]. | |||||
| Intrusives | Narrow granitic and tonalitic dykes witin the hosting sequence, and TTG-series intrusions immediately to the east of the supracrustal sequence [1]. | |||||

| Controlling structure | Possibly a NNW-trending shar zone [2]; late-D3 or D4 structures [3]. | |||||
| Deformation history | At least, six deformation stages during the late Archaean and two deformation stages during the Palaeoproterozoic detected in the area; gold mineralisation is related to the Archaean late D3 and/or D4 stages; D2: 2850–2837 Ma, D3: 2701–2697 Ma, D4: peaked at 2657±32 Ma; age of D2 is probably 2820±15 Ma [2] or 2843±18 Ma [4]. | |||||
